The machinery
In this section, you’ll find answers to frequently asked questions to help you better understand how our machinery works and the services we offer. Quick and clear support to guide you in choosing and using our solutions.
What is a carton former, and when is it necessary to use one?
A carton former, also known as a cartoning machine or case packer, is a machine that automatically places a product into a box or case in an accurate, reliable and continuous manner. It is required when production volumes make manual carton packing too slow, too costly or unable to meet the quality standards demanded by the market.
What is the difference between a cartoning machine, a case packer and a specialised case packer?
The box-making machine works with open corrugated cardboard boxes, inserting the product and sealing the flaps. The case-making machine works with pre-formed cases made from foldable cardboard. The special case-making machine is a variant designed for special occasions or unusual formats that require non-standard closing or presentation mechanisms.
Can Bellini Machines’ carton forming machines be customised to suit the product?
Yes. The machines are designed to meet the specific requirements of the product and the sector. It is possible to integrate simple filling systems or more complex solutions, including anthropomorphic robots and vision systems with cameras for quality control and the precise positioning of the product in the box.
How long does it take to change the format on a carton forming machine?
Changing formats is quick and easy thanks to interchangeable components that require no tools. This is essential for companies with a wide range of product variants that need to minimise production downtime during changeovers.
In which industrial sectors is the carton forming machine used?
Bellini Machines’ carton forming machines are used in the bakery, food, beverage, packaging, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and pet food sectors. They are particularly suitable for beverages, preserves, chemicals, spirits, cosmetics, detergents, textiles and graphic arts.
Is it possible to integrate a machine vision system into the carton forming machine?
Yes. Bellini Machines can integrate vision systems with cameras for the inspection and filling of boxes or cartons. These systems enable the automatic verification of product presence, orientation and quality prior to sealing, thereby reducing waste and ensuring compliance with the customer’s specifications.
Which industry standards is the carton forming machine compatible with?
The machine is compatible with Siemens, Omron, Allen-Bradley and Schneider Electric PLCs, and with the PROFINET, EtherCAT, EtherNet/IP and CANopen protocols. This ensures full integration into any production environment and compatibility with company MES, SCADA or ERP systems.
What happens if there is a jam or a mechanical fault on the forming machine?
The machine is fitted with automatic fault detection systems that trigger a safety shutdown and display a warning on the operator panel. The open design allows quick access to the working areas for troubleshooting. A modem for remote assistance is available on request.
If I have several different types of boxes or cases, do I need a separate machine for each one?
Not necessarily. Thanks to the quick format changeover and the ability to customise the machine with interchangeable attachments, a single Bellini Machines carton forming machine can handle different types of packaging. The assessment depends on the variability of the formats and the required production rates.
